5 simple ways to increase email open rates to take your email marketing to the next level
There is a lot of talk on the internet marketing grape vine surrounding email marketing and how it may have had it’s day and Facebook is the best way to target subscribers and leads.
For me email marketing is still and for the foreseeable future the best way to communicate with customers and subscribers and this is what I want to talk about today.
If you use email marketing in your business you may want to try something new when it comes to communication with your own subscribers. You may be aware, that last I week I ran a large promotional campaign with a big bonus attached to it to create more value. What I also did during this promotion was change the way I communicated with my subscribers..
I have never been one for using prewritten content like some marketers do. I always review the products first so I know exactly what particular products are about and if they are worthy of telling the subscribers on my malling lists about. This also determines the promotional material I create e.g. related bonuses, video reviews, tutorials etc.
So what did I change?
During the launch of Product Launch Control last month I discovered something new when I wrote an email half way through my promotional campaign. I sent an email with the headline ‘Words of Worry and a Thank You’. This email has been opened just over 1000 times and the email responded to just under 100 times. I have since wrote 4 more emails with the same type of results.
This told me something about my email marketing? If I stick to being me, I’m listened to a lot more. So here we go, with my 5 simple ways to increase email open rates.
1. Create an Interesting Title – Your email title is the key to the open rate, but not the be-all and end-all of it. Yes people need to see the title before opening your email, but once you have established trust by using the other 4 keys in this post you will see your open rates increase. So fist of all create an interesting title which compels people to open your email. HERE is a post that may help you find some suitable title for your next email promotion.
2. Write Good Meaningful Content in Your Emails – Sell sell sell does’t always work. I’m not going to say it doesn’t work period because it does, I have proof it works and it can work very well but there is a time and a place for it. So if you want to keep your subscribers and avoid massive unsubscribes, try to create content that tells stories, analogies, builds trust and gives help. But most of all engages the reader to respond an click your links without the hard sell.
3. Cut the Constant Sales Bull – I receive emails every single day that try to sell me something. I have been in this business a long time, enough to recognise hard sell and raw affiliate marketing targeted at people with what I call shiny object syndrome (the promises of easy riches). I have been in that same position myself and lost all of my subscribers because of it, which is not something I consider a good business model so I don’t recommend it. So with that said try to communicate a little better. You can even go as far as letting people into your life by asking for responses and responding to email replies.
4. Be Truthful in Your Emails – People aren’t stupid. They don’t fall for crazy tricks and BS. A simple rule of thumb here is don’t send something you wouldn’t want to read yourself! Remember this.
5. Mix up Your Content – Mix up your campaigns and cut the sales emails and supply some content such as a newsletter, a blog post, even a free download from time to time. This allows you to build trust and shows your subscribers that it’s not all about the hard sale.
My open rates have increased dramatically over the last few months by taking this same approach to email marketing. Why not give it a try and see if it works for you to.
Do you agree? I would love to hear your thoughts. All comments welcome.
Thanks Daniel ,Nice post I did get
some great tip as always from you post.
In number 5 are you saying if you get 7
email swipes for a 7 day campaign ? Don’t
mail all 7 and instead interject some other
emails of just content?
Can you explain a little more . Like would
you send 1 affiliate email swipe day one?
On day two just content related to the product
with no links, and then alternate one day affiliate
swipe email and then the next day content only
and the same until the 7 day campaigns over?
To your success

Hey Zora, If you are in the middle of a campaign, don’t use the swipes as a whole. People know you, not the swipe email you send. Use the swipe as a base but be yourself. Plus if you are in the middle of a campaign, concentrate on the campaign but create angles, don’t sell every email, but still have a link in every mail. Hope this helps.
Hi Dan,
What strikes me theses days is; some guru will teach you one thing in his training package that you have bought – Such as you must nurture your list, provide lots of free valuable content, and don’t oversell, i.e. use the 80 – 20 rule of content emails versus promotional emails.
Which sounds great.
But in reality, they are doing the opposite!! , just sending out trashy promo’s everyday.
Somewhere in between is probably safe ground, and i must admit, I open all of your mails, so you are definitely doing something right.
Cheers
Brian
Hello Dan, how are you doing?
Hope all is good.
Email marketing is a powerful way to build customers, visitors and make a base of loyal buyers (if done right)! You seem to have got the main points to how to do email marketing in an efficient way Dan.
It is great that you have shared your results so that it gives your readers something to grasp up on.
TIP 6] Include links to your social bookmarketing links
_______________________________________________
You can add link(s) to your social marketing pages (facebook, twitter etc), so that your readers can add you socially there. Don’t overdo this by adding too many links. They don’t have to be in all your emails.
TIP 7] Subscribe to other peoples email lists
_______________________________________
You can subscribe to other peoples lists and study their email content and see how they are structuring their emails, and checking out their email style

Well, I increase the numbers of people who subscribed our mailing is really hardest for us. I know that one of hardest thing is that how to tell those subscribers to open and read our newsletters.
I would agree with you, title is tittle is really important to do that since it is the show up of our email content.
So, making the beautiful headline is really important to attract readers to click email and read it.
